Ten organisations in the Queanbeyan Palerang region have been awarded funding through the 2024-25 Volunteer Grants round.
Each year the Volunteer Grants program provides up to $10 million in funding to community organisations across Australia that they can then use to support their volunteers through such things including the purchasing of small equipment items, training, insurance costs and background screening checks.
Organisations within the Queanbeyan Palerang region that are receiving funding include the Braidwood Show Society, Queanbeyan Netball Association, Bella Monaro Women’s Football Club, and the Queanbeyan and District Rodeo Association Inc.
Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain MP congratulated the many organisations who will receive funding under the program.
“It’s great to see so many local communities will benefit from this funding, which helps support local sporting groups, and other events and organisations that bring the community together.
“I know Eden-Monaro has so many amazing volunteers who give up their time to keep our towns running. Your work is so important, and makes a real difference to people’s lives.
“It’s also great that eligible community organisations will be able to allocate their funding towards insurance premiums for the first time.
“This change helps successful organisations to better navigate rising operating costs and reduces out of pocket costs for volunteers.”
Kristy McBain visited Create Collaborate Collective Inc at The Hive in Queanbeyan to formally present the grant to Board members Helen Gibson, Frank Bresnik and Dennis Mortimer.
“We are ever so grateful to receive this financial support for our local not-for-profit group that connects people in arts and culture.” Helen Gibson said.
